Editing and versions
Editing a delivered workbook in the browser, what stays locked, and how to get back to an earlier build.
You can type into the workbook without leaving the page.
What is editable
Non-formula cells. Anything computed is locked, and the header says so — Editable — formulas locked. The lock is what stops an edit from silently detaching a total from the lines it sums.
What an edit does
An edit is saved as a new version of the file. The original build is kept. A later re-run continues from the version you edited, not from the original, so a correction you made by hand is not quietly undone by the next generate.
Preview always shows the baseline
The in-page preview renders the build's own output. Your edits live in the saved version — if the two look different, that is which one you are looking at, not a lost edit.
Going back
Every build and every restore is on the case's history. You can restore an earlier run, and the restore is itself recorded — so "which workbook did we send them" always has an answer.
Re-running after new documents
Add or replace a document and the case shows Documents changed — re-run to refresh. Until you do, the figures on screen were computed from the previous set. The banner is the only thing standing between that and a working paper that looks current and is not.
